According to VISA, the initiative is designed to “task start-ups to solve commerce challenges of tomorrow, further enhance their own product propositions and provide visionary solutions for Visa’s vast network of partners”.

The 2-day event starts with a pre-event Black Tie Social while the pitch competition holds throughout the day on Tuesday 24th July 2018.

VoguePay will be competing in the merchant payment challenge category.

In this category, the winner is expected to provide the best solution that leverages Visa Developer APIs to either: Enable smaller merchants to accept payments in-store digitally OR Provide a safe and secure solution for online merchants to drive eCommerce and reduce cash on delivery.

A prize award of $25,000 goes to each category winner (there are 3 of them), while an overall winner will also be announced.

Michael Simeon, VoguePay CEO considers the VISA challenge as an opportunity to work directly with Visa and partner network to scale VoguePay’s solution that is design to foster cross-border commerce.

He affirmed that VoguePay is positioned to leverage its blockchain technology and partnerships with leading Nigeria banks to grow its merchant base by 700% by year 2019 and sees the competition as an opportunity to consolidate this with VISA partnership.

Speaking further, Chris Bishop, who was recently appointed as non-executive director in the company added that while the prize money is an added incentive for VoguePay, he said VoguePay is more interested in working directly with VISA and partner networks.

On arrival at VISA office, all the participating startups had networking sessions and did one more round of rehearsals to prepare them for the final event.
